Ideas for extending/expanding the inquiry process for this unit: Health care interviews

Students could interview health care professionals to find out what they think about online health resources or other adults in the community to find out about their online search behaviors and include their findings in their presentations.

Evaluation Skill

The main skill that is addressed in this unit is resource evaluation. Although this skill should be taught during the research process in any core subject class, teaching it in a health class offers two main benefits. One benefit is that students should begin to see the translation of skills used in core classes to all of their other educational pursuits. They can begin to understand more fully that evaluating resources is important even when they aren’t in social studies, science, or English class. Another benefit is that health class is uniquely suited to helping students apply their resource evaluation skills to real life scenarios. Most students will not leave school and continue to do personal research on world wars. However, most will at some point seek information related to health topics.
